Chronicles of an Airbnb Hopeful – # 6
“The mountains are calling…and I must go!”- John Muir
THE END
It is with great anticipation and excitement that I present to you The Hickory House! My family had our first holiday celebration in our new home just after Christmas. Clearly, I am behind in writing this blog! The cocktails were in full force, the fire was crackling, and the next generation was dancing and singing Christmas carols. We were doing exactly what we had dreamed of – making memories in our new cozy abode.
Below is a poem gifted to Scott and I this past Christmas from my mom, Tina. I couldn’t stop smiling when I read it. Hopefully, it brings a smile to your face too.
The Hickory House
Whenever I go to Bristol, in search of sun and space
I’ll always stop at the Hickory House, my special “sacred” place.
You’ll find it up Carriage Rd., behind the bubbling brook.
Nestled in the Birch and Pine, be sure and take a look.
You’ll climb the stairs, alight the deck, the door you’ll open wide,
And smile with deep contentment at what you’ll find inside.
A warm and cozy fireplace, to sit and sip some brew,
A comfy bed, a rocking chair and quite a lovely view.
And surely if this house could talk, she’d say that she was blessed,
With her ceiling, grand and hickory floors, she stands out from the rest.
She’d boast of all the warm sunlight that shines in every nook,
She’d challenge you to find a better place to read a book.
And she would tell the story, of how she came to be,
How lost among the cobwebs, she was found and then set free.
A couple who was searching saw beyond her tarnished face,
With a little love and elbow grease, she would be a lovely place.
At first with just the two of them, their hopes began to fade,
But then came friends and family, with brush, and saw and spade.
And now she stands, this Hickory House, a blessing from God’s Grace,
My sanctuary and my love, my special “sacred place”.

THE JOURNEY
This journey has not been for the faint of heart. Scott, our fearless carpenter, has been through it all, and we, his adoring family, have missed him dearly!! Let’s just say we have lots of quality time catching up to do. While our renovation timeline went beyond what we had planned (as it always does!), we could NOT have completed this project in the timeline we did without ALL of the help we received. To all who lent a hand, thank you! To all of my readers and cheerleaders, thank you too!
We listed our home on Airbnb and VRBO this year and have ten bookings to date. We hope that you, too, will consider a visit! Bring your friends, a good book, and leave your stress behind.
